8 Weeks and Still Breathing

Today is Chantix Day 69 and Smoke-free Day 57.

It was 8 weeks ago today, on June 18, 2007, that I got into my car in the morning and wondered if I'd make it through my first full 24 hours not smoking. I had Chantix-boosted confidence that it might not be the easiest thing in the world, but that I was capable of doing it. Turns out, I was right on both counts and that the Chantix did make it easier than past quits. Even after a somewhat rugged but very productive weekend, I'm still smoke-free. My last puff was shortly before midnight on 6/17, and I intend to keep it that way because I'm finally starting to remember my quit date without having to look on the calendar.

Breathing still works. I must have sounded like a deflating balloon half the weekend with all of the deep breathing. Not sure if it was in through the nose, but it was absolutely out through the mouth, sometimes with a bit of flair to keep it interesting. Tom didn't mind because he's good to me but especially since my tough weekend translated into my cooking for him to keep busy (and I didn't even tell you all about the pound cake and fresh strawberries and Cool Whip I fed him for dessert... oh. yummy. summer.).

Smelling fresh nature stuff outside still inspires me. When I smelled the air this morning, I was so glad that even if I whined a lot for a couple of days, I didn't give in, not even a little puffy-poo, and so the gift of smelling, really smelling, the fresh air and the grass and trees was my body's grateful gift again today.

  1. I'm really looking forward to seeing if I'm less sick this winter. Or at least not AS sick when I get sick.

Congrats on week 8. I hope I make it to that point!

  2. Me, too, Tasina. Anything has to be better than going out in the cold to smoke while sick, just knowing that all of the above is the worst thing you can do.

I know I did get sick the winter I wasn't smoking, but I bet I recovered more quickly.

  4. Sounds to me like we had a rough weekend. I'm so glad that we made it through without giving in. The stromboli you made both looks and sounds delish!! And with those deep breaths you were getting lots of good breaths of all the yummy food you were making!! Deep breathing works good for me too.

Congrats on making it through your weekend from hell!! I hope the week goes better for ya!!

  6. The air smell in the morning captivates my whole being every day. It makes my day, more often than not.

Nice pic on your new profile!

Just a little over a week left before your first decrease in Chantix dose. How do you feel?

  7. Yep, Stan, good morning air. Especially out here in the NW with all the pine trees everywhere. Yummy.

Oh, crap, is it really just a little over a week away? Time flies. I wasn't freaking out at all until you mentioned it ;) Nah, I'm good. I'm either ready, or I'm not. If not, either I'll get more or just tough it out. I think I can take it from here, though.
