Ocean Air and a Day at the Beach

It's still Chantix Day 60 and Smoke-free Day 48, and now I know that ocean air smells just as wonderful to me as a non-smoker as the mountain air does.

Here's how I spent my day with my man at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, OR (careful, volume, seagulls are loud - quality could have been better, but until today I didn't realize my camera - thank you, Tom! - even did video, let alone with better quality settings):

Today, I also laughed. I mean really laughed. Really hard. Turns out I've even developed a *new* laugh that's a tad on the loud side, but it's the sound of me no longer holding back for fear of coughing. This was near the top of my list of reasons I quit smoking and now why I'm determined to stay quit. About the coughing, Tom told me that there's still no more coughing in the night now at all ever. He used to kind of worry sometimes. I used to feel bad about it because I knew that I was doing it to myself. Watching someone you love suck poison into their lungs and noticeably do things like cough, get short of breath, and not be able to make it through a road trip of more than an hour or two without "needing" a nicotine fix can't be at all enjoyable, so by contrast, today has been a Very Fabulous Day around here for both of us.

We went to a favorite restaurant, and it was wonderful, but since they jacked the prices up, we'll be on the hunt for a new favorite. The coffee was really good, though:

And the place still has such a really cute and quaint and coastal feel (plus my crab sandwich and clam chowder rocked; Tom loved the halibut fish & chips, too):

And then I got to ham it up for the camera like the dork I am:

Dream about owning property on the beach after we win the lottery, which we never actually play, so our odds don't look so hot:

And breath in some of the freshest ocean air I've ever breathed while losing myself in the sheer awesomeness of nature (this one's worth clicking on for larger image):

According to the little Quit Counter thingy on my desktop, already I've added 2 Days and 11 Hours to a life I don't want to miss because there are at least a million places just like this that I haven't seen yet. To say that I am grateful that I have quit smoking is an understatement.

  1. Looks like you had a great day. You deserve it! :)

  2. Wow, Maggie, what a kewl post! BEAUTIFUL beach...really, breathtaking. I think I could spend hours there...just breathing it, absorbing it, taking it all in. I especially love how the sand reflects the sky like a mirror.. That's totally beautiful!

And you look great, too! I don't even know if you give yourself account of that. AAAAND this is living proof that your confidence levels went waaay up, which is great because that only makes people like you more! :)

All in all, this is wonderful!

  3. Oh man, I am so driving out there this week. :)

  4. Ellie, I'm always ready for a trip to the coast, too!

Talk to me.
