Columbia River Gorge-ous-ness

Today is smoke-free day 423, and I have a few pictures (narrowed down from a bucket load) to share of what my nephew and I have done so far on his visit to beautiful Oregon.

Yesterday, fresh off the plane from Chicago (but without bringing me White Castles that I can't get here in Oregon - just sayin'), we went to the Columbia River Gorge to see the breathtaking views from Crown Point Vista House and these waterfalls that are awesome (the real kind of awesome, as in really, inspiring the awe) no matter how many times I see them: Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and, of course, the big daddy itself, Multnomah Falls.

Since I have to work today, we'll mostly just be hanging out and cooking dinner together, but tomorrow will be more adventures (in sweltering heat of 98F/36C heat), likely with more pictures to follow. It may be awhile before I can get caught up with all of my bloggy friends, but you are all still loved. :)

  6. The Gorge is so beautiful, I'm always stunned whenever I'm in it. My paternal grandfather helped build the Vista House as part of the CCC program. His name is allegedly in the concrete somewhere, but we've never been able to find it.

  15. Amazing. I remember seeing a waterfall in CO called "Seven Falls" I think? It kind of reminds me of that. Beautiful.

Oh, I have a recipe to make White Castles at home too, but you have to use beef baby food. (No joke...its identical...stinks up the whole house for two days too!) Lemmie know if you get a cravin'.

  17. Great pictures Maggie. Here in Southern Oregon we always brag about Crater Lake, Rogue River, Umpqua Waterfalls but the Columbia Gorge is really something. In September we are staying at Columbia Gorge Hotel for a couple nights and I'm looking forward to that.
