Sound of Music

This is possibly my final Music Monday since it was a concept I came up with just to help pull me through NaBloPoMo, and this is the last Monday of November already. Crazy, I know.

Some soundtracks just really rock my socks, whether from musicals or movies or even some TV shows. I couldn't begin to list all of my favorites, but I will say that they range from the plays like Annie, The Sound of Music, Rent and West Side Story and to movies like Grease, The Little Mermaid, Footloose and Purple Rain. There have to be a million others, like the movie 8 Mile. I'm not even a fan of Eminem or even most rap music in general and never expected to love the movie as much as I did, but I loved it, and the song "Lose Yourself" still gets me all pumped up and makes my blood flow. If I ever get into a girl fight, complete with hair pulling and face scratching, I hope this is playing in the background (even if the lyrics have nothing to do with that situation; still...).

  2. I really love the soundtrack to the movie "You Can Count On Me." It has Steve Earle and Del McCoury Band on it. I need to watch 8 mile, too.

  3. Unexpectedly, I really enjoyed '8 Mile'. But I really like the sounds they play on 'Grey's Anatomy'. I know, I know. But the music is usually pretty cool.

    Also, Notting Hill and Hope Floats have awesome soundtracks.
    And Love Actually. So good!

    i am a sucker for soundtracks. i have, in my collection, soundtracks of city of angels, twister, XXX (some great German techno here), cars, titanic, the holiday, moulin rouge, i am sam, garden state, and a million others(turns out the theme for me usually is great instrumentals and acoustics)..

  7. OK, I'm gonna get as sappy as I know how here. Annie Lennox's version of my favorite Bob song, "Waiting in Vain" at the end os Serendipity is friggin awesome. If you haven't heard it, go dowload now.

    Have to say I've never given much time to any rap, but reading the lyrics for this hit home. Thanks for sharing Maggie. Good stuff

  9. Although I love Across the Universe, Moulin Rouge, I am Sam, and Almost Famous as a whole, I dunno if a song in a movie got me as emotional as "Man of the Hour" by Eddie Vedder did in Big Fish.

  10. "Lose Yourself" is one of the last songs on my workout playlist.

    One of my all time favorite songs from a movie is "Let the River Run" from Working Girl (by Carly Simon).

  11. Wow. You and I share quite a few favorite soundtracks. Annie, Grease, Sound of Music are certainly in my top 5.

    I also loved Moulin Rouge, Chicago, When Harry Met Sally, and De-Lovely.
