Happy Different Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day in Japan is a different holiday than it is where I'm from. Sure, there are pink and red hearts everywhere, but after that, it gets kind of different.

Women buy chocolate for men, 義理チョコ - giri choco - "obligation chocolate" for guys they are not in love with and 本命チョコ - honmei choco - "true feeling chocolate" for boyfriends/husbands/guys they do like romantically. The whole concept of alternate gift ideas  like flowers or cards or teddy bears don't exist, and I have seen/heard about way more romance happening on Christmas Eve (gag. cringe.). Valentine's Day in Japan is a one way street from girl to guy, but then girls have White Day on March 14th when they get white chocolate.

  1. I think men in the US would like a Valentines Day like this.

  2. So interesting, the different perspectives !!!!

  3. That is quite the balloon arch! My girls would lose their minds over it!
